Design Philosophy

My instructional design philosophy centers on creating dynamic and engaging learning experiences that drive learner success. I believe that effective instructional design should go beyond simply conveying information. It should inspire curiosity, promote critical thinking, and empower learners to apply their knowledge in meaningful ways. My approach combines evidence-based practices with innovative strategies to foster active learning opportunities that captivate learners and support diverse learning needs. In order to support all learners, I incorporate accessibility practices and Universal Design for Learning principles into all my work. By placing the learner at the head of each design decision, I aim to build experiences that not only enhance knowledge retention but also encourage a lifelong love of learning.

My approach to creating learning experiences is grounded in five core principles. These principles ensure my work is effective, purposeful, and learner-centered.

Principle 1

Engage & Motivate

Learning is most effective when it captures attention and sustains participation. But attention isn’t enough - adults need to understand the purpose behind what they’re learning. When learners see the value and relevance to their goals, they’re far more likely to invest the time and effort needed to succeed.

Principle 2

Build Leaders

Our organizations and communities face complex challenges that require leaders with vision and resilience. Learners at every level should be equipped with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to lead with purpose, no matter their role, and to make a lasting impact where it matters most.

Principle 3

Evaluate Regularly

Too often, learning experiences are launched and forgotten. But learners have limited time and energy. Every program must deliver value to justify the investment. That’s why I prioritize gathering feedback, analyzing performance data, and reviewing outcomes. This process ensures every learning experience remains relevant, impactful, and aligned with organizational goals.

Principle 4

Continuously Evolve

Learning experiences, no matter how thoughtfully crafted, can yield different outcomes depending on the learners involved. What resonates with one audience may fall flat with another. That’s why learning must be dynamic - continually refined to create the most impactful experience possible for every learner.

Principle 5

Ensure Accessibility

Every learner deserves a learning experience that meets them where they are. Accessibility isn’t just an add-on. It’s foundational to effective design. By anticipating diverse needs and removing barriers to engagement, we can create environments where all learners can thrive.
